The Watches and Wonders fair in Geneva, taking place from 1 to 7 April, 2025, is the most important event for the luxury watch industry, bringing together the biggest watch exhibitors, primarily from Switzerland. From giants like Rolex and Patek Philippe to corporations such as LVMH and Richemont, the event attracts tens of thousands of visitors, including journalists and media representatives.
Watches and Wonders replaced the former Baselworld, which collapsed due to organizational issues. The new fair, dominated by Swiss brands, has become a stage for competition and innovation, where decisions are made by a committee composed of exhibitors.
The fair also highlights the general trend of rising prices for new watches, despite falling prices in the secondary market. Dealers report price increases of up to 15-20%.
Manufacturers face the dilemma of rising raw material costs and inflation. In response, they are adopting various strategies, such as reducing watch sizes, using more affordable materials (titanium, ceramic, composites), and creatively designing straps (vegan leather, rubber, textiles). Synthetic diamonds are also being promoted as an alternative to those from Russian mines.
It is also worth emphasizing the ecological aspect of mechanical watches, which are durable and repairable. In summary, Watches and Wonders is an exciting event where tradition meets innovation, and the watchmaking industry seeks ways to address the challenges of the modern market.
